Air Plants & Compressors for Snowmaking

SMI offers air plant and compressor solutions to support a wide range of snowmaking systems. Resorts typically choose between central “hill air” systems or individual compressors located at each snow gun, depending on infrastructure and operational goals.

SMI provides both options and can design compressed air systems that integrate with your pumping, cooling, and automation infrastructure.

SMI Offers

  • Air Plants

Central air systems use compressor stations to generate compressed air that is distributed across the mountain through a network of pipelines and hydrants. Multiple snow guns operate from a shared compressed air source supplied by the central air plant.

This approach is commonly used for larger snowmaking systems and provides centralized compressor maintenance and consistent air delivery across the mountain.

  • On Board Compressors

SMI also offers snow guns equipped with onboard compressors, allowing each unit to operate independently. This approach reduces the need for compressed air distribution infrastructure and provides flexibility for system expansion.

Onboard compressors can be used alongside central air systems or as part of a standalone snowmaking solution, depending on project requirements.

We offer 5, 7.5, and 10 HP onboard compressors
